Getting a Clyde builder to act on a defect report
Writing, escalating and the Victorian dispute path.
In short: A report only works if it is used properly. This is the sequence that gets things fixed.
Put it in writing
Email the report with a clear list and a date. The dispute service will ask whether you did this first.
Be specific
Cite the item number and the clause. Vague complaints get vague answers.
Give a reasonable time
Then follow up in writing again. Keep the chain.
Escalate
The Building and Plumbing Commission dispute resolution service, formerly DBDRV, is the next step.
VCAT
The Building and Property List, and at that point you need an expert witness report rather than a defect report.
Written by the Owner Inspections team from inspections carried out in Clyde. Licensed building practitioners, Building & Plumbing Commission registration CDB-U 53425.
